'In the Garden' wins regional EMMY®

The N.C. State University-produced show In the Garden with Bryce Lane has won a regional EMMY® Award. The production team received the award in Nashville, Tenn., at the 25th Annual Midsouth Regional Emmy® Awards.

Obituary: Ken Fager, CEFS research specialist

Ken L. Fager, 48, passed away Dec. 31. He was a researcher and educator at the Center for Environmental Farming Systems at N.C. State University. A native of Pennsylvania, Fager earned his bachelor’s degree in horticulture from Penn State University in 1984.

Sherman releases vermiculture book

Rhonda Sherman, solid waste Cooperative Extension specialist in the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department, is co-editor of the first scientific book on vermicomposting. Vermiculture Technology: Earthworms, Organic Wastes, and Environmental Management was released this week by CRC Press.

Dr. Elizabeth B. Wilson, associate professor of agricultural and extension education in N.C. State University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, received a 2010 Regional Teaching Award at the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities 123rd Annual Meeting in Dallas.

Dr. Helen Kraus and Anne Spafford have won the Gold Award for Best Technical Gardening Book, given by the Garden Writers Association for their book 'Rain Gardening in the South.'

Lowe named Currituck County Extension director

Cameron S. Lowe, a former biotechnology teacher and 4-H agent, became the director of the N.C. Cooperative Extension center in Currituck County on Sept. 17. She succeeds Rodney Sawyer, who retired as Currituck County Extension director in 2009 after 31 years of service.
