It’s official – the N.C. Food Innovation Lab (NCFIL) is under construction. We’ve begun upfitting the space on the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis for NCFIL.

NCFIL, an NC State facility, grew out of an ongoing partnership of the university, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the North Carolina Department of Commerce/Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina. It will support food processing and manufacturing of North Carolina commodities within the borders of our state.

Bill Aimutis, executive director for NCFIL, is excited for the innovation lab to attract companies to North Carolina to take advantage of the benefits offered by the lab and to “employ our citizens and put their brick-and-mortar facilities here.”

Support for the lab has come from near and far. Kannapolis Mayor Darrell Hinnant explains how the innovation center will help companies of all sizes, entrepreneurs and farmers by bringing rural and urban North Carolina together in a new way.

Construction completion is expected during the summer of 2019 with plans for a grand opening in October 2019.
