Richard H. Linton, dean of NC State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, has been selected to serve on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Science Board. The board advises the FDA commissioner on complex technical and scientific issues.
Committee membership is an honor awarded to people who are technically qualified in their respective fields and have demonstrated an ability to interpret complex data.
Linton’s board service runs until Dec. 31, 2023. His appointment continues his long history of working with food safety. Having earned his doctorate in food science, he previously served on the Purdue University faculty and then as chair of the Department of Food Science and Technology at the Ohio State University.
Linton’s food science research has focused on modeling the growth and inactivation of foodborne pathogens within food systems, developing fast detection systems for foodborne hazards, and creating a computer-based food defense simulation. His work has received extensive recognition, including awards from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Indiana Environmental Health Association, and the Institute of Food Technologists.
