In the Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences, we nurture strong and healthy families, communities, and agriculture. We educate students in agriculture and human sciences, find solutions to problems, and extend knowledge to create healthy communities for youth and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AHS is proud to be home to 22 tenured and tenure-track faculty members, 4 adjunct faculty members, and over 92 full-time professional staff who are passionate about making North Carolina and beyond a better place to live, work, and thrive. Welcome from Department Head Ben Chapman<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our department is built on the strength, dedication, and expertise of the people who make up our community. With more than 80 professional staff and 21 tenured and tenure-track faculty, the Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences thrives because of the commitment each employee brings to serving North Carolina and beyond. Every program we deliver, every class we teach, and every partnership we build is possible because of your talent, professionalism, and passion for improving the lives of individuals, families, and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the heart of our work is a shared mission: enhancing health and wellness through food, nutrition, extension, agricultural systems, and community-based initiatives. Whether your role focuses on research, teaching, extension, administration, or operational support, you play a vital part in transforming scientific knowledge into real-world impact\u2014reaching classrooms, homes, businesses, and communities across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our programs support our state\u2019s number one economic driver, agriculture, with over $100 billion annually, and our faculty, staff and students are passionate in their work representing the human aspects of agriculture and the food system. Our department leads and supports efforts in agricultural education, extension education, leadership development, communication, youth development, family and consumer sciences as well as program\/intervention design, research translation and evaluation. Last year alone, faculty and staff contributed to 71 grant projects totaling $34.7 million in multi-year funding, advancing efforts in food and agricultural systems, nutrition and health policy, food safety, disaster preparedness, environmental health, youth development, family financial wellness and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
