Mandatory Civil Rights Training

Looking out the window at people in line to vote.

Civil Rights training is required of faculty and staff within universities receiving federal funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) to ensure compliance and enforcement of the prohibition against discrimination in research and Extension.

CALS online Civil Rights Training was developed to provide an overview of applicable nondiscrimination laws and general civil rights obligations tied to federal funding awarded to CALS.

Who has to complete this training?
Nearly everyone in CALS. The only employees not required to complete the training are:

  • County-Based Cooperative Extension employees
  • Academic Advisors, Lecturers and Faculty with a 100% teaching/academic appointment
  • Temporary employees, student workers, graduate students, post-docs

How to sign-up and access the training?
1) Go to the NC State REPORTER System and register for Civil Rights Compliance in USDA-NIFA Sponsored Research & Extension Programs – CALS-CR-R/E
2) You receive an email from REPORTER with a link to access the training in Moodle.
3) Complete the training modules and quiz before Monday, January 17, 2022. The training and final knowledge quiz can be completed over multiple sessions.
4) Completion will be recorded in REPORTER and you will receive a Certificate of Completion upon successfully reviewing the material.
