Supporting Digital Accessibility

Two groups of people talking in a hall way.
Did you know that roughly 20% of the population has a disability that may affect their interactions in our digital environments?
At NC State, we want to provide resources that support you in making your digital content consumable by the broadest audience possible.
The NC State IT Accessibility Office invites you to learn more about Digital Accessibility Basics (NEW.) through a self-directed resource with six modules (roughly 10-15 min each) to support you in creating a more accessible digital environment (think emails, newsletters, digital documents, websites, etc.)
We are also kicking off the NC State Annual Web Accessibility ChallengeThe Web Accessibility Challenge encourages campus website owners and designers to make accessibility improvements to their websites. It amplifies GAAD’s mission to get everyone talking, thinking, and learning about digital access and inclusion.
The 2023 Web Accessibility Challenge will kicked off on Thursday, May 18, and will run until Friday, June 16. The challenge will recognize campus websites that improve their overall accessibility errors by the most significant percentage. Challenge winners will be announced in the July edition of OIT News, the Web Accessibility Champions Website, and awarded certificates.

This summer, the NC State DELTA Accessibility Team has added an integrated accessibility tool to our LMS environment Moodle that will support Instructors in creating accessible content for their courses. DELTA’s short instructional videos are an excellent resource for getting started with the Brickfield Accessibility Toolkit in Moodle. If you want to learn more about accessible digital education, DELTA has several resources and opportunities. Check out the Accessibility section of their Teaching Resources, and view their upcoming workshops.

hey also offer a workshop series every semester (attend all four and earn a badge !) for Universal Design for Learning. They also have plans to provide a 1-day UDL institute this Fall. The self-paced Reaching All Learners module also offers many ideas and helpful information.
