Dr. Vicki Martin as Interim Assistant Director for Academic Programs

We are excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Vicki Martin as Interim Assistant Director for Academic Programs.  Dr. Martin brings a wealth of experience to CALS Academic Programs.  Her passion for students and student success are exemplary.

Vicki earned her BS from the University of North Carolina Charlotte and her MS and PhD from Wake Forest University, all in Biology.  She was an assistant professor at the University of Louisville and at Notre Dame, becoming an Associate Professor at the latter institution.  At Notre Dame she also served as Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of Biological Studies. In 1999 she moved to Appalachian State University as Chair of the Biology Department.  In 2012 she joined CALS as Assistant Director of Academic Programs and moved to the College of Science with its creation.

In her various positions Dr. Martin has taught a broad range of courses, coordinated study abroad experiences, promoted research experiences for undergraduates, and mentored numerous graduate students. Vicki currently serves as Chair of the Student Programs Task Force with the National Council on Undergraduate Research and previously as Chair of the Biology Division with the same group.  She has also provided service to her field as President of the American Microscopical Society.

In her position she will continue to promote student success and lead college efforts in graduate programs and distance education. Dr. Martin started Thursday, August 10.
