COVID-19 Booster Shot Incentive Leave Program

Student Health Services, located on Cates Avenue, is designed to meet the health needs of NC State students.
UNC System President Peter Hans has authorized all system institutions to offer a COVID-19 booster shot incentive leave program to eligible leave-earning SHRA and EHRA employees. This program offers a paid day off in accord with an executive order that Gov. Roy Cooper signed, approving a similar paid day off for other state employees.

To receive a paid day off under this leave program, an employee must meet the program’s requirements, which includes providing proof that the employee received a COVID-19 booster shot on or before Aug. 31. Beginning Oct. 4, “Covid-19 Booster Leave” will be available as a leave option in MyPack Portal, but employees won’t be able to request a day off under this program until the proof they submit undergoes a verification process.

Who’s Eligible for COVID-19 Booster Leave?

COVID-19 booster leave is available to eligible leave-earning SHRA and EHRA employees who are full-time or part-time permanent, probationary or time-limited employees and work at least 20 hours per week.

Temporary employees, postdocs, interns and contractors are not eligible. Part-time employees are not eligible for COVID-19 booster leave if they work less than 20 hours per week.

How To Submit Proof You Received a COVID-19 Booster Shot

Employees must have received a COVID-19 booster shot on or before Aug. 31 to receive a paid day off under this leave program. Employees who wish to receive a day of COVID-19 booster leave must go to the HealthyPack Portal and submit proof of having received a booster shot on or before the deadline.

To submit proof through the portal, select North Carolina State University as your home organization and log in. From the homepage, select “Uploads” and then follow the instructions on the page to submit proof of your COVID-19 booster.

If you have previously submitted your booster information through the portal, it is still on record, and you do not need to submit again. Campus Health and Emergency Management and Mission Continuity will conduct the verification process.

How To Request COVID-19 Booster Leave

After you submit proof of your booster, it may take up to two weeks for your booster record to be verified and for you to be able to request a paid day off under this program.

To use COVID-19 booster leave to request a day off, go to MyPack Portal, select the WolfTime tile and then click “Request Absence” on the left side of the page. From the “Absence Name” dropdown menu, select “COVID-19 Booster Leave.” Please remember that this leave option won’t be available in MyPack Portal until Oct. 4. Before you submit your request, select “View Eligibility and Forecast.” If you are ineligible to receive a paid day off under this program or if the record you submitted is still going through the verification process, you will receive a pop-up message notifying you of that, and you won’t be able to submit your request.

Eligible employees can request time off under this program for dates between May 4, 2022, and March 31, 2023. Eligible full-time employees can request up to eight hours of time off. Part-time employees will receive a prorated amount of leave based on their number of hours compared to a full-time schedule. All unused COVID-19 booster leave will expire on April 1, 2023. This type of leave is not eligible to be paid out to employees upon separation.
