2020 Annual SHRA Performance Appraisal Update 

As a SHRA employee or as an individual that has supervisory responsibilities for a SHRAemployee, you received communication this past February regarding the end of the 2019-20performance cycle. The cycle typically ends annually on March 31. 

We continue to monitor the evolving situation with COVID-19 and remain dedicated to the wellbeing of our faculty, staff and community. Based on the current operating environment and incollaboration with the UNC System Office and Office of State Human Resources, the decisionhas been made to extend the current SHRA performance management cycle through June 30,2020. This will provide greater flexibility to our faculty and staff over the next several months.Following are some of the salient points to be aware of: 

● The revised 2019-20 cycle will be 15 months long and the following 2020-21 cycle willoperate as an abbreviated 9-month cycle. 

● Employees and supervisors can continue to operate and utilize their current employeeperformance plans through June 30. If there are material changes to individual goals ordevelopment plans within this extended cycle, please adjust as you traditionally would andshare with the employee. 

● Under this extension, the 2019-20 annual appraisals and the 2020-21 performance planswill need to be completed by August 31, 2020. I anticipate your respective college ordivision will communicate their year-end process closer to the end of the extended cycle. 

● Please note the close of the SHRA cycle will coincide with the close of the EHRA nonfaculty 2019-20 performance evaluation cycle. We do not anticipate this occurring on arecurring basis. 

● If supervisors have 9-month employees or are 9-month themselves and will not be able toconduct the review based on the extended cycle they should arrange to conduct prior totheir departure or immediately upon their return.For more information about the SHRA Performance Appraisal Program, including tools,resources and training, please visit the SHRA Performance Management website.
