Dominican Republic: SWEET Success Internship Program

NC State researcher at a banana plantation in the Dominican Republic

The program is designed to give an exploration of topics related to agricultural and environmental sciences. Students will be visiting a variety of locations that will provide an overview of natural resources management in agricultural businesses. Students will also have a hands-on opportunity to learn about different management practices of agricultural systems that incorporate the broad overview of topics related to sustainability relative to the plant and soil sciences. You will have access to the local Dominican field experts as well as local faculty and students who will accompany us on site visits.

This course will identify and examine distinguishing characteristics, including ideas, values, images, cultural artifacts, economic structures, technological or scientific developments, and/or attitudes of people in society or culture outside the U.S. with the Dominican Republic. In addition, we will address by explaining to the students how these distinguishing characteristics change in response to internal and external pressures on the non-U.S. society related to the science and the content of the course in which the students will be engaged.
