Thanks for taking the time to read this NC Plant Sciences Initiative (PSI) newsletter. We hope to keep you informed about NC PSI successes and activities on a regular basis. Let me know if you want to see something in this newsletter, and we will do our best to provide the most up-to-date information possible.
Let’s first start with a building update. The Plant Sciences Building that will be built on NC State’s Centennial Campus is about to wrap up the design development phase. It is “last call” for building input by our faculty, staff and consultants. Very soon, we will turn this input and preliminary plans over to be finalized and prepare for the construction bid process.
It is exciting to see what we have come up with on paper with the many meetings we have held and the input gathered. You will be proud of what will be built and available to our faculty, staff, students, and partners to conduct world-class plant science research. Our plan calls for actual earth to be moved about a year from now on the Centennial Campus site. We are in the process of planning a formal groundbreaking ceremony in September of 2019. Stay tuned: We’ll let you know the date once it’s been selected.
New Research Projects Emerging
In the meantime, we continue to pull together researchers from around the world to conduct interdisciplinary research. We will have more to say about some of these research projects in upcoming editions, and we anticipate amazing and promising results.
The Advocacy and Resource Development Task Force is working hard to secure the additional funding needed to complete the building and also the programmatic funding needed to run the NC Plant Sciences Initiative operations. We will need everyone’s help to get this completed and behind us. I want to personally thank each member of the task force for their help and work to identify and secure the funding needed. It’s not an easy task for anyone.
I also wanted to share with you a link to a video that the NC PSI was featured in from the Research Triangle Regional Partnership organization here in Research Triangle Park. They conducted a State of the Region event in downtown Raleigh on May 30. Over 800 people attended, and the NC Plant Sciences Initiative was one of the focus pieces in the main presentation. We are going to take this video, add some additional footage and make it available to others who need it. We will send that link out as well once that’s done.
Thanks for supporting the NC PSI. We are excited to work with everyone on this mission.
