The 4-day event offered 19 workshops, 116 career fair booths, event briefings and competitions in 30 areas of applied horticulture. This year\u2019s team had 29 students, 14 of which were first time participants. Each student had the opportunity to partner with industry professionals for event preparation. Along with student effort, great educational foundations, and industry participation, the students obtained 18 top 10 rankings in their respective events.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span>Top Ten Placings:<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Jacob Jernigan<\/b><span> \u2013 1st Skid Steer Loader Operation,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Amanda Lay<\/b><span> \u2013 2nd Turf &amp; Weed ID<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Jonna Nance<\/b><span> &amp; <\/span><b>Mikayla Hughes<\/b><span> \u2013 2nd in Employee Development<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Lucas Yanders<\/b><span> \u2013 3rd Compact Excavator Operation<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Chase Southerland<\/b><span> \u2013 3rd Tractor Loader Backhoe Operation<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Patrick Moore<\/b><span> \u2013 3rd Woody Ornamental Plant Identification<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>John Nix<\/b><span> \u2013 4th Woody Ornamental Plant Identification<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Ashley Kendall<\/b><span> &amp; <\/span><b>Lucas Yanders<\/b><span> \u2013 5th Irrigation Troubleshooting<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Grace Manzer<\/b><span> \u2013 8th Flower and Foliage Identification<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>John Nix<\/b><span> \u2013 8th Plant Problem Diagnosis<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Sicely Sohn <\/b><span>&amp; <\/span><b>Sophia McCusker<\/b><span> \u2013 9th Arboriculture Techniques,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Chad Tyson<\/b><span> &amp; <\/span><b>Kris Riebe<\/b><span> \u2013 9th Landscape Maintenance Operations<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>David Denton<\/b><span> \u2013 10th Annual &amp; Perennial ID<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Mackenzie Hare<\/b><span> \u2013 10th Computer Aided Landscape Design<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>Other purposes for the trip were to enjoy the camaraderie with team members and achieve a common goal of building on what has been learned while in the Horticultural Science Department. Touring locations included Kill Devil Hills, Roanoke Island and Lake Mattamuskeet.
