Lucy Bradley<\/a> is the Consumer and Community Horticulture Specialist at the NC\u00a0State University, Department of Horticultural Science. She directs consumer horticulture, community gardening, therapeutic horticulture, preschool gardening, and the North Carolina Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program.<\/p>\n Lucy began her gardening career as a Master Gardener Volunteer in Phoenix, Arizona, and went on to earn a Master\u2019s Degree in Botany and a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from Arizona State University.<\/p>\n She links university expertise with county expertise to expand the impact of the horticulture department. Several of her current projects include:<\/p>\n The\u00a0NC Extension Gardener Handbook<\/a>:\u00a0now available\u00a0free online<\/a>, as a\u00a0hardcover book<\/a>\u00a0from UNC press, and as an\u00a0interactive online teaching tool<\/a>\u00a0from TopHat.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n The\u00a0Extension Gardener Plant Toolbox<\/a>: an online\u00a0plant database\u00a0with\u00a0almost 5,000 plants.\u00a0 Users can select a plant with desired characteristics (95 variables) that will thrive in a specific environment, identify alternate options for poisonous or invasive plants, link to NC\u00a0 Cooperative Extension publications on how to manage pest and disease problems the plant is susceptible to, see images and video profiles of the plant (including whole plants, plant parts, seasonal interest, life cycle stages), and much more.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Therapeutic Horticulture Certificate Program<\/a>: A series of 4 fully online, self-paced courses\u00a0teaching the theory, practice, and profession of Therapeutic Horticulture.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Online courses\u00a0<\/a>in plant identification and garden, lawn, and landscape management.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Dr. Bradley is an urban pioneer who has raised chickens, bees, native frogs, and a daughter in an edible landscape full of native plants.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Mail Address<\/strong> Ph.D. 2006, Arizona State University, Plant Biology NC State Extension Publications<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
