Helen Yoest, Director, Bee Better

Wednesdays, October 4 through 25, 2017 – 6:30 pm–8:30 pm

Helen Yoest, executive director of Bee Better, an area nonprofit helping homeowners build better backyards for birds, bees, and butterflies, will once again hold the popular Creating a Sustainable Urban Wildlife Habitat course, teaching about our area birds, bees, and butterflies.

The focus on this course is to educate homeowners on the importance of sustainable, organic, and waterwise garden design, with a focus on native plants for resident and migrating birds, bees, and butterflies.

Itinerary

October 4 – Sustainability and Migratory Birds

We will not only go into detail about our area and migratory birds—nest composition and location, number of eggs, number of fledges, and habits— but the plants to grow to sustain their habitats.

October 11 – Resident Birds

We will cover the same format for resident birds as we will migratory birds.

October 18 – Butterflies and Bees

We will cover the same format for butterflies with life cycles, host plants, nectar plants, and general habitat requirements. And again for both the European honey bee and native bees, with more emphasis on our native bees.

October 25 – Visit the Bee Better Teaching Garden

A visit to the Bee Better Teaching Garden at the home of Helen Yoest.
