Abstract
Recent advances in basic science could be translational to applied research for crop trait improvement. To bridge the gap between basic and applied research, Dr. Liu is developing a research program using modern genetics, genomics, or other research tools to improve crops, with emphasis on specialty crops of economic importance. The research projects in his program focus on the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of agronomic traits, genetic engineering of crop traits, and the development of novel methods and biotechnologies. Dr. Liu is on his way toward establishing an externally-funded research and education program. As a candidate for reappointment, Dr. Liu will present an overview of his program’s progress and achievements and a vision of his program directions at NC State.
