Regional Locations

  • East Coast

    Semester Field Trips (More details to come)

    The semester field trip is typically held in October with visits to nurseries, garden centers, botanical gardens, private estates and other sites for students interested in horticulture.

Guidelines for the semester field trip include

  • Payment schedule - 1/2 payment: 4 wks prior to the trip, remaining payment: 2 wks prior. Costs will vary from $100 - $500 according to destination but will be kept low by students sharing rooms.
  • In order for a trip to be successful, it must include at least 12 students.
  • 2-3 advisors will lead the trip and will likely rotate through a list of 3-4 advisors interested in travel
  • If interested in participating, the team builds at the beginning of each fall semester. Contact Lee Ivy or Lis Meyer for details.

National Collegiate Competition

Guidelines for the national collegiate competition include

  • Payment schedule - 1/2 payment: Jan 15th, remaining payment: Feb 15th. Costs will vary from $300 - $800 according to destination but will be kept low by students sharing rooms.
  • The trip is financed by fundraising and student payment. Each student has the opportunity to defray costs by participating in fundraising activities
  • 2-3 advisors will lead the trip.
  • If interested in participating, the team builds at the beginning of each fall semester. Contact Lee Ivy or Lis Meyer for details.

Summer Field Trips

  • US Pacific Northwest

    August 2016 - Pacific NW

    Visits include food/plant production facilities, botanical gardens, state & national parks, and public/private estates.

  • Hawaii

    May 2017 - Hawaii

    Visits include food/plant production facilities, botanical gardens, state & national parks, and public/private estates.

Guidelines for the summer field trips include

  • Payment schedule - 1/2 payment: Jan 15th, remaining payment: Mar 15th. Costs will vary from $1500 – $4000 according to destination but will be kept low by students sharing rooms and advanced airfare purchases.
  • Student must attend NC State or Oregon State but does not have to be a horticulture major.
  • In order for a trip to be successful, it must include at least 12 students.
  • 2–3 advisors will lead the trip and will likely rotate through a list of 5–6 advisors interested in travel.
  • Be sure to get your passport in advance
