Dr. Dan Bebber – “Climate Change Effects on Emerging Crop Pests and Pathogens”
April 18, 2019 | 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT
Sponsored by CFEP: Emerging Plant Disease and Global Food Security
Dan Bebber is an ecologist with a special interest in the responses of plant pests and pathogens to global change. He trained in tropical forest ecology at Oxford University, studying the impacts of drought on forest regeneration in Borneo, before working on forest ecology at the University of Toronto and at Oxford University. Some of this work led to an Ig Nobel prize in 2010, on biological networks. He worked with the environmental NGO Earthwatch for five years, on a global citizen science programme on carbon sequestration in forests, before returning to academia in 2013. His current focus is on the pests and diseases of crops, with a special interest in bananas, the world’s favourite fruit. He maintains collaborations around the world investigating how climate change and anthropogenic activities affect crop-disease interactions in different systems.
