Research Interests

I am an urban ecologist studying the effects of urbanization on plant and arthropod communities in forest fragments. I am interested in how urban forest communities are affected by their surroundings: impervious surface, urban heat island effect, and invasion by nonnative species. I study urban forest communities at two latitudes (a northern city and southern city) to understand how different background temperatures affect urban forest species interactions. These data provide insight to how climate change may affect communities in forest ecosystems. These data will inform managers how best to maintain ecosystem services and native biotic communities in novel city ecosystems.
