The Crop and Soil Sciences Extension group collaborates with field faculty in all 100 counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee in North Carolina to deliver information and technology that make the state\u2019s diverse agriculture more profitable and ecologically sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We work with all of the state\u2019s major commodities and lead research-backed expertise in many areas, including seed research, weed science, sustainable agriculture, agroecology, nutrient management, water quality, and soil erosion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With 18 specialists and 5 associates we are one of the largest and most diverse Extension groups in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Several of our specialists manage programs recognized nationally and internationally, and three hold named professorships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We Deliver Solutions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Most Extension specialists conduct research on farms throughout the state, 16 North Carolina research stations, and the Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS). We share objective, research-based information about production systems to the public, train the next generation of farmers, and extend information to our clients.<\/p>\n\n\n

Welcome, all plant geeks and mud-pie makers! Grow For It is an initiative of NC Cooperative Extension\u2019s 4-H Youth Development program to grow a generation of youth interested in investigating plants, insects, and soils through experiential projects. We support adult leaders with curriculum development, resource materials, and training to build their knowledge and enthusiasm to deliver programs for youth. Liz Driscoll, a 4-H subject matter specialist, leads the Grow For It program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
