An update planting decision tool has been developed to assist row crop farmers in North Carolina with planting decisions with respect to corn, soybean, wheat, and cotton. The tool is an Excel spreadsheet that combines the latest new crop prices, derived by updating new crop futures and new crop basis quotes, with the latest costs of production. Users can easily update new crop futures and basis quotes and calculate the profitability of each crop so that more informed planting decisions can be made.
