{"id":101052,"date":"2025-08-25T11:38:29","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T15:38:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cals.ncsu.edu\/applied-ecology\/?post_type=person&#038;p=101052"},"modified":"2025-08-25T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T16:00:00","slug":"jim-elser","status":"publish","type":"person","link":"https:\/\/cals.ncsu.edu\/applied-ecology\/people\/jim-elser\/","title":{"rendered":"Jim Elser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Elser\u2019s primary research activities involve developing and testing the theory of ecological stoichiometry, the study of the balance of energy and multiple chemical elements in ecological systems, and, more recently, in advancing progress towards phosphorus sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Dr Elser&#8217;s research focuses most intensively on Flathead Lake as well as\u00a0other lakes of western Montana as well as high elevation lakes on the Qinghai Plateau (China). Specific studies involve observational and experimental studies at various scales, including laboratory cultures, short-term field experiments and regional scale comparative studies.
