As of June 2020, The Department of Applied Ecology formally created a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee including faculty, students, and staff.
The mission of the committee is to establish the baseline and depth of diversity issues within the department and fields of ecology and set measurable goals for growth. The committee will provide opportunities and brave spaces to discuss these issues, and increase diversity within the department by cultivating a supportive, thriving, and attractive environment for ecologists from rich and diverse backgrounds. The members of the committee are:
- Khara Grieger
- Michelle Jewell
- Aranzazu Lascurain
- Erin McKenney
- Ámbar M. Torres Molinari
- Lauren Nichols
- Alonso Ramírez
- James Rice
- Mariely Vega Gómez
Several articles have highlighted the racial divide within STEM and ecology, specifically (see the resources page), and we are committed to address the issues within our department, university, and field.
For more information or questions, please contact the committee chair, Michelle Jewell (majewell@ncsu.edu).
