Rural Economies in Eastern NC Studied by ARE Students
They participated in the inaugural offering of the Maymester course ARE 495: Rural Economic Development. Students met business and social entrepreneurs, economic development experts, and natural resource managers to learn how rural economies are structured. The majority of the course was spent visiting inland and soundside communities in the rural coastal plain including Kinston of Lenoir County, Smyrna of Carteret County, and Oriental of Pamlico County, among others.
