YFCS Program Selected as Excellence in Assessment Honoree

The Department of Agricultural and Human Sciences is proud to announce that Youth, Family, and Community Sciences is one of six graduate programs at NC State to have been selected as an honoree for NC State’s Excellence in Assessment awards by the Graduate School. This recognition is for degree and certificate programs that meet NC State’s expectations for quality of assessment and additionally incorporate multiple best practices in their assessment processes aimed at improving student learning. Department head, Ben Chapman, remarked that “This is a fantastic recognition of the amazing efforts that our faculty have put forward to create evidence-based and innovative instructional output.”

Award for excellence in assessment. 2020 through 2021

Academic program director Annie Hardison-Moody says “I’m grateful for collaborators in our department who helped us design a survey that did double duty. It helped us assess whether and how our alums are integrating the knowledge from our program into their present careers, and helped us to understand what we are doing well, and what we can improve.  We learned that most (91%) of our alums are in careers related to their YFCS degree, and over 75% of them are using information they learned with us at least once a week in their jobs. Every program can improve, but I’m so proud to work with incredible colleagues who are passionate about blending theory and practice in the classroom, so that our students can go out and make the world a better place.”

Chapman also stated that “This prestigious recognition by the Graduate School is a testament to the passionate community of instructors we have within our department.” Congratulations again to the Youth, Family, and Community Sciences academic program for this amazing recognition.
