#PassTheMicYouth Offers COVID-19 Tips for Youth Self Care

Written By: Dr. Maru Gonzalez

As COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc in communities across the U.S., young people are feeling the impact. To ensure they aren’t alone in addressing these challenges, #PassTheMicYouth — a youth-led multimedia program aimed amplifying young people’s voices — is spearheading a variety of initiatives focused on cultivating connection, building solidarity, and prioritizing youth mental health. Our blog posts are filled with tips for youth self-care and stress management.  We have also been highlighting the ways in which young people are impacting their communities while maintaining physical distance, including preparing and delivering meals to those in need; raising funds to help purchase hotel rooms for individuals experiencing homelessness; and working with their community to create a garden that all can enjoy.

And to emphasize  the importance of youth/adult partnerships during the COVID-19 era, we are planning a podcast episode with an acclaimed teacher and one of his students to learn how youth-serving professionals can continue to support young people from afar. Finally, we will keep engaging with young people through social media and have an art challenge in the works, one that involves themes of hope, joy, unity, and solidarity.
