Japanese Exchange Students Visit AHS

NC State is hosting 20 college students from Nagoya University in Japan for a cultural immersion experience. Among the many cultural and educational experiences on campus, four of the agricultural students are attending Agricultural and Extension Education (AEE) courses: Riho Kagawa, Shuna Asai, Haruto Irie, and Asano Nakamura. The group engaged in these courses:

  • AEE 230, Introduction to Cooperative Extension, Dr. Joseph Donaldson
  • AEE 435, Presentations in Agricultural Organizations, Dr. Joy Morgan
  • AEHS 735, Effective Teaching in Agriculture and Life Sciences, Dr. Joy Morgan
Attending the NC Farm Bureau Collegiate Young Farmers and Ranchers Banquet

Highlights of their time with AEE faculty, students, and stakeholders included:

  • Nagoya students gained class experiences and also developed friendships as they were immersed in the above-mentioned classes. Further, our AEE students enjoyed learning more about their culture and educational experiences in Japan.
  • The students participated in a video conference with Ms. Heather Schaffer, County Extension Director, Guilford County, to learn about the day-to-day work of an Extension professional.
  • Nagoya students attended the NC Farm Bureau Collegiate Young Farmers and Ranchers Banquet where they engaged with students from NC State University, North Carolina A & T University, and the University of Mount Olive. In addition, North Carolina Farm Bureau President, Shawn Harding, was the keynote speaker at the banquet and enjoyed meeting these four students. NC State’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Club is led by Dr. Joy Morgan and Brent Jennings.

They also attended classes to experience the American education and the caliber of NC State’s academic offerings.
