Master of Science in Agricultural and Extension Education

Core Courses (21 hours)

  • AEE 501 – Foundations of Agricultural & Extension Education
  • AEE 578 – Scientific Inquiry in Agricultural & Extension Education
  • One additional course in Research or Statistics
  • Choose one of the following:
    • AEE 579 – Research Design in Agricultural & Extension Education
    • AEE 777 – Qualitative Research Methods in the Agricultural & Life Sciences
    • A statistics course or other research course
  • Curriculum/Program Planning. Choose one of the following:
    • AEE 521 – Program Planning in Agricultural & Extension Education
    • AEE 524 – Coordinating the High School Agricultural Education Program
    • AEE 529 – Curriculum Development in Agricultural & Extension Education
  • Instructional Methodology (3 hours). Choose one of the following:
    • AEE 523 – Adult Education in Agriculture
    • AEE 535 – Teaching Agriculture in Secondary Schools (recommended for those with no teaching experience)
    • AEE 595 – Advanced Teaching Methods in Agricultural Education
  • AEE 735 – Effective Teaching in Agriculture & Life Sciences (recommended for those who desire to teach in higher education)
  • AEE 695 – Master’s Thesis Research (6 hours)

Electives (15 hours)

Students are allowed to take 15 hours of elective courses. These can be in AEE or in disciplines such as Animal Science, Crop Science, Horticulture, Entomology, Forestry, and Youth Development and Family Life Education, among others.

Although it is not required, students can also declare a minor. Students will need to take 9-12 hours in a specialty and work with a professor from that area.

AG*IDEA Courses and Tuition Waivers

Please note that AG*IDEA courses cannot be covered by tuition waivers.

Master of Agricultural and Extension Education

Where there are choices, students should select courses appropriate for their concentration: agricultural education or extension education.

Core Courses (15 hours)

  • AEE 501 – Foundations of Agricultural and Extension Education (3 hours)
  • AEE 578 – Scientific Inquiry in Agricultural and Extension Education (3 hours)
  • Curriculum/Program Planning (3 hours). Choose one of the following:
    • AEE 521 – Program Planning in Agricultural & Extension Education
    • AEE 524 – Coordinating the High School Agricultural Education Program
    • AEE 529 – Curriculum Development in Agricultural & Extension Education
  • Instructional Methodology (3 hours). Choose one of the following:
    • AEE 523 – Adult Education in Agriculture
    • AEE 535 – Teaching Agriculture. in Secondary Schools (recommended for those with no teaching experience)
    • AEE 735 – Effective Teaching in Agriculture & Life Sciences (recommended for those who desire to teach in higher education)
  • Culminating Master’s Project (3 hours). Choose one of the following:
    • AEE 620 – Special Problems in Agricultural and Extension Education
    • AEE 693 – Master’s Supervised Research
