North Carolina State University - Department Of Genetics

The Department of Genetics consists of a highly interactive group of scientists with foci in quantitative, developmental and computational genetics. The department also administers outstanding undergraduate and graduate training programs in genetics, partly supported by an NIH training grant on 'The Genetic Architecture of Quantitative Traits'.

Julien Ayroles Wins Kenneth R. Keller Award for Excellence in Doctoral Dissertation Research Dr. Julien Ayroles was selected by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at NCSU as the recipient of the Kenneth R. Keller Award for Excellence in Doctoral DIssertation Research. The Keller award consists of a plaque and cash award, and is presented each year at the Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society for Agriculture spring banquet.

Julien completed a PhD in Genetics in 2010 working in the labs or Dr. Trudy Mackay and Eric Stone. His PhD dissertation focused on developing a new paradigm of systems genetics to elucidate the genetic architecture of complex traits using the model system Drosophila melanogaster. Julien is the second Genetics PhD student in two years to be awarded the Kenneth R. Keller Award.

Julien Ayroles was recently appointed to the prestigious Society of Fellows at Harvard University. In his new position, Julien will investigate one of the most fundamental goals in modern biology, namely, to understand the relationship between genotypic and phenotypic variation. As a Harvard Junior Fellow, Julien will combine the power of modern genomics with theoretical and empirical approaches in population genetics and molecular biology to study the genetic basis of adaptation.
