Dr. Rachel Lynch has been awarded a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship for her project “Effects of cooperating mutations and genetic background on colon cancer metastasis.” She is a member of Dr. David Threadgill’s laboratory. Rachel is developing an alternative mouse model of metastatic colon cancer (i.e. cancer that has spread to distant parts of the body like the liver). This model will be optimized for testing the effects of genetic background on metastasis susceptibility and will be used to test the hypothesis that various mutations commonly found in colonic tumors interact with the genetic background to govern metastatic potential.
