Dr. Bob Franks has been awarded the George J. and Rhoda W. Kriz Faculty Study Leave Endowment Award to support his scholarly reassignment visit to the Department of Plant Biology and Forest Genetics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden. Dr. Franks will work with Dr. Eva Sundberg on a collaborative project that applies protoplast sorting and chromatin immunoprecipitation technologies to study the development of the gynoecium (seed pod) of the flowering plant Arabidopsis thaliana. The goal of Dr. Franks' work is to characterize gene regulation events within the distinct developmental domains of the gynoecium that give rise to the seed.
