Graduate Program
SEVEN KEYS TO A SUCCESSFUL GRADUATE PROGRAM
- Keep in communication with your advisor.
- Take responsibility for your program. Take the initiative: identify courses, potential committee members, and consult with your advisor.
- Start your research as soon as possible in consultation with your advisor. Maintain a well-organized and detailed lab notebook/research record.
- You will be expected to juggle three major responsibilities at all times. These will include research, teaching, and coursework. If you are not teaching, then you will have presentations and/or writing to accompany your research and coursework responsibilities instead.
- Get to know other graduate students in and out of your discipline. Look to them also for lab assistance and support.
- Read papers both inside and outside of your field.
- Remember that NCSU owns the data you produce.
