Assistantships

Assistantships from several sources are awarded on a competitive basis based on the qualifications of the applicant.

Assistantships for the MS and PhD degrees carry annual stipends of $15,000 and $16,000, respectively.

Students interested in being considered for a departmental assistantship should submit their application by the early application deadline of January 15th for Fall semester and November 15th for Spring semester.

In addition to the annual stipend, students on assistantship are eligible for the Graduate Student Support Plan (GSSP). Benefits for students participating in the GSSP include:

• Waiver of in- and out-of-state tuition for:
  
  • 4 semesters (2 years) for MS students
  • 8 semesters (4 years) for PhD students who hold an MS degree at the time of admission to their doctoral program
  • 10 semesters (5 years) for students going either directly from a BS to a PhD degree or progressing continuously from the MS to the PhD degree
• Health insurance coverage
