Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the field of animal science, the graduate program within the Department of Animal Science does not designate specific coursework for individual graduate degree programs. This approach allows students maximum flexibility to design a graduate program tailored to achieve the student's educational goals.
The graduate student's individual plan of work, therefore, is designed jointly by the student and their mentor, in consultation with the student's advsory committee.
Below is an example plan of work for a student who received their MS degree with an emphasis on nutrition. This student continued in their program to pursue their Animal Science PhD degree with a nutrition emphasis under a continous registration. In this case, the prgram has a ten semester total length and 30 MS degree credits are counted toward their 72 hour requirement for the PhD. This is meant only as an example plan of work and in no way should be considered an indication of specific coursework requirements for potential graduate students.
