Academic Programs

Graduate study in the Department offers students an opportunity to train in a diversity of basic sciences and in areas of applied animal management and production.

• At the Masters’ level, the Department of Animal Science offers two degree program options: the Master of Animal Science (MAS) and the Master of Science (MS) .  At the doctoral level, the Department of Animal Science offers a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Animal and Poultry Science with a concentration in Animal Science.

• A graduate program in animal science includes courses offered by the Department of Animal Science as well as courses offered by other departments and programs at NC State University.
• Graduate students may specialize in a discipline or area of study such as biotechnology, genomics, genetics, nutrition, physiology or production management.
• Animal science graduate students can also choose to co-major within their graduate degree programs.
